Olympic City Tour

For those of you underprivileged folk (I'm joking!) who can't go see the sights, here's a brief tour of the craziness that's going on in the downtown core. Microchip really wanted to brave the crowds and venture downtown at least once while the Olympics were on, so he booked a day off and we took the skytrain to waterfront station...along with tens of thousands of other people!

Canada Place, just in case it's not obvious

The "official" welcome centre, ladies and gentlemen

And for your viewing pleasure, behold THE Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch, lit by Wayne Gretzky! (even I know who he is!)

My favorite part of the trip, I have to be honest, was escaping the throng and stopping at this coffee shop for lunch. Indisputably Vancouver's best coffee! Microchip's been wanting to take me here for a long time but we are very rarely downtown together.

Lunch, by the way, was some amazing grilled lamb panini! My mouth is watering!

Sorry, I just love their sign!

Behold the masses....it was like this all along Robson Street...just craziness. Can you tell I do NOT like crowds?

Lots of interesting people down there...like these Swedes

And bad ol' Uncle Sam! (definitely not good!)

And Microchip couldn't resist this Elvis wannabe! You're missing out on the blaring Elvis songs coming through on his speakers. Cool, dude.

Wonder if he's proud to be Canadian?

Magic tricks done in cool costume

Some people riding the zip lines between the buildings downtown...they're free if you want to wait several hours in line!

A classic Vancouver street shot where the crowds thinned out

All the red and white made me feel like I was in a Where's Waldo book!

Well it's fun to look at your pics, I gotta say, I'm glad it wasn't me that was there. :-) It makes me feel all hyperventilatey to think about being in those crowds for one, and for two, trying to keep a death grip on my kids in the madness. :-) That coffee shop looks awesome. I love a good coffee shop. :-) Perhaps a downtown date is in order for the two of you after the Olympic Insanity is over!?
