It's all in our perspective
Sometimes I'm prone to focusing on my circumstances...how much I have to do, worrying over children's attitudes, bills bills bills, and lately, allergies! How petty those seem in comparison to the issues many in this world have to face every day...poverty, civil war, violence, fear, anger, hopelessness, etc. I have been reading We Are That Family's blog telling of their visit to Kenya and Uganda. It is reinforced to me just why we sponsor children through Compassion. There is something wonderful that happens when we reach beyond our little world and give a little to those who are in desperate need. Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Maybe we receive more than we give and that's why we become so very self-centered and discontent. My eyes are not dry when I consider how rich I am in comparison to some. The unspeakable conditions that these poor people live in make me feel almost ashamed to complain about petty things. I am so mightily privileged and have life so good in comparison. Do we have mere sympathy or genuine compassion for those in poverty? The best gift we can ever give these people is the light and hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Helping them in their physical needs is important, but secondary. If you do not already, I urge you to pray about sponsoring a child through Compassion, stretching out your hands to the needy, so to speak. This is not a political campaign, it is spoken out of years of experience witnessing how we have been able by God's grace to help two children in poverty and change their lives. If you are not convinced, read the above mentioned blog!
